This is it, folks! There’s just a few hours left to prepare, then it’s NaNoWriMo baby, yeah!
I’ve got a Ulysses group set up and ready to go!
- ??? is a filter on the text… well, “???”. Any time I have a question I need to answer later, or a description I know I’ll need to go back and fill out, I mark it with “???”, then that sheet automatically appears in the filter. It makes it super-easy for me to find all my gaps.
- Notes is just a dumping ground for things I don’t want to forget.
- Manuscript is the big one! It’s got a word count goal on it of 50,000, and it’s split out into Act 1 (12,500 words), Act 2 (25,000 words) and Act 3 (12,500 words).
I’ve got a Numbers spreadsheet all coded up, which automatically calculates my daily target based on how many days and words are remaining.
Right now — naturally — I’m zero words in, and my target for tomorrow is 1,667. If I beat 1,667 then my target on November 2nd will be a little lower. If I underwrite, then it’ll be a little higher. Either way, this spreadsheet will keep me on track for 50,000 words by November 31st.
So, last-minute preparation?
I’m planning for 50 scenes in total (with 1,000 words each), and the first 18 of those scenes are outlined well enough for me to start drafting tomorrow.
The next chunk of outlining I need to do will fill in scenes 19-23. I’ve got some super-rough notes for how I want to build up to the dramatic midpoint, but they need some work before I can draft them in anger.
Thank you, and good luck!
I’m going to take this opportunity to say thank you to all the awesome bloggers I’ve connected with during Preptober! I’ve loved your awesome posts and your awesome comments, and you’re awesome!
So, good luck, folks. This is it. Rest well, and have fun tomorrow!
