Eat my dust, 20k!
Okay, so today wasn’t as spectacular as yesterday, but I’m happy enough! I’m at 20,757 words!
It’s only 119 words over my target for today, but anything over-target is a good day, so I’m happy enough!
What happened to that 23,000 target?
So yeah, I set myself the goal of hitting 23,000 words today, and I missed that by miles.
Well, I hit a scene which was outlined something like this:
SCENES 31-33: Under attack
Esthree, Bolide and Hurrible are under attack by dragons.
They must hide, outwit the pilots, then steal a dragon and escape.
I ran out of time to figure this out during Preptober, so past-me made it future-me’s problem.
To quote myself during Preptober:
“I know… pretty well how the story transitions from the adventure of Act 2 into the final battle of Act 3.”
Well, now future-me is current-me, and today has been more about plotting than about writing.
NaNoWriMo is a terrible time to have to think about your story. There just isn’t time!
It’s all on me, though.
I spent the first three weeks of Preptober chasing ideas which weren’t going to work, and I only started plotting Esthree Postbuild vs the Void Rock on day 22. If I’d spend all of Preptober on this then I’d be working from a rock-solid outline.
But I didn’t, so I’m not.
The plan for tomorrow
I spent most of today brainstorming, and I’ll need to do the same again tomorrow.
I’m back at my day-job in the morning, so I’ll only have a few hours in the evening.
I’ll just need to make them count, and make sure I get at least 1,625 words out to stay on-target.
See you tomorrow!
