Esthree Postbuild vs the Void Rock :: 1st Draft :: 34,246 words

10 December 2017

It’s been a long week.

After not writing a damned word during the previous week, I really wanted to get back into Esthree Postbuild this week.

But Oh - My - God, this week has been the worst for day-job related anxiety. I got home every evening, and I just needed to get out of my head.

I tried to get back into the story, but I couldn’t. I just couldn’t get the anxiety out of my head long enough to make a difference.

Since I didn’t want to spend the evenings just sitting on the sofa and fretting, I spent a bit of time brainstorming ideas for distracting myself from the world while still being creative and producing something.

One thing I super-enjoy is playing my ukulele. It’s fun, but there are songs I love that just can’t be done justice on it…

…and that’s when I realised, I want a piano. Well, keyboard, whatever. Something I can come home to, plug my headphones into, and play super-loud to wipe out a shitty day.

So I treated myself to a Yamaha NP12.

This isn’t going to become a music blog. It certainly isn’t replacing my writing time. It’s just… an alternative, for rounding off the bad days.

Anyway, today…

I had the whole day today to spend however I wanted. I pushed myself, and I got up to 34,246 words.

The third act has several types of confrontations and battles, and I’m hashing out the final one now.

It’s a bit more slow-going and heavy than the rest because it needs some kind of scientific plausibility, but I think the end’s in sight. Hopefully, it’ll get a bit lighter after this bit.

The plan for this week

Oh boy, I don’t know. I just don’t know.

I can’t see my day-job inducing less anxiety any time soon, so I’m steeling myself tonight for another rough week.

But! This is my last week of work this year! I wrap up on Friday, then I’ve got two weeks off for Christmas. Even if I chill out on the writing this week to focus on my day-job, at least I know I’ve got two weeks of catch-up time coming up.

Oh, and it’s my birthday on Wednesday!
