29 April 2018
I just realised that this is the final week of April!
Time to take stock…
I set myself two goals last month:
This is a hard fail, for reasons I already shared.
I’m gutted, but there’s always next year. And if you know of any awesome flash fiction challenges in the meantime, let me know!
This is a soft fail.
My notes have grown from 6,136 words to 10,660, and I feel like I’m about 75% ready to start the first draft. There are are still some significant gaps in the outline, but filling them is just a matter of brainstorming.
I’ve already posted about the mindset that’s holding me back, but at least there’s some progress.
Still, though: Fail.
I’m giving myself only one goal this month:
I’ve got an OmniOutliner document with a matrix of my main characters and how they’re going to hit the story beats.
It doesn’t go into a ton of detail, but it does explain how each character crosses the act boundaries, how their stakes are raised, how they grow (or fall) within their arc, and how later beats mirror the earlier ones.
I want to get this beat outline sodding done so I can crack on with the scene outline and get some writing done.
Right, then. See you in May!
