Well, this’ll be a super-quick update!
To recap, the goal I set for myself last week was:
So, let’s say my plan for next Sunday’s update is… to have the second draft nearly done
…and I haven’t touched it all week.
I had Friday booked off from my day-job to grab some breakfast with Mark, my (soon to be) editor. I whittled through a few hundred words in the morning, but not enough to make a difference. Then I spent the whole afternoon with Alex – which was lovely, since we hadn’t seen each other for a couple of weeks.
Sunday’s my usual writing day, and I like to get up around 6am-ish to fill the day. This morning, though, I just could - not - wake - up. I felt like I was recovering from something, so I let my body have it and I slept in for as long as I needed.
But even when I finally got up, I was just too mentally wiped to write.
Of course I’m gutted. Of course I’m pissed off. I can’t write during the week because I bubble with day-job anxiety. Sunday is all I get, and it bums me out when I lose it.
The only thing I achieved today was a post about my thoughts on having my work reviewed by a real-life editor.
At least I’ve got tomorrow booked off from my day-job! I suppose that’s why it’s gone 8pm on Sunday evening and I haven’t crawled into bed enveloped within cloud of terror yet.
I’m going to set my alarm nice and early, and cram in a full day to try to get this second draft done.
The deadline for submitting “Kids Today” to Otter Libris is Wednesday 31st. Mark wants two days to review it, which makes Sunday 28th the absolute latest I can get the story to him.
Which means… well, I’ve got this week to finish it. By next Sunday’s update, the story needs to be in Mark’s hands.
