I don’t have a writing update this week, because I haven’t written anything. I’ve spent a bit of time working on the “business” side.
Over the last week or so, a few friends — who don’t read this blog — have asked me how my writing is going, if the novel is out yet, when will it be out, and all that jazz.
Those conversations made me realise that I should set up my mailing list. Every author I know who’s ever written a “What Would I Do Differently If I Could Go Back In Time?” article or podcast has said they’d get their mailing list up and running sooner rather than later.
And now, I get it. I can’t ask folks to subscribe to this blog and just remember to come back and check for updates. I can’t ask them to notice my updates amongst the noise on Twitter. The best way to let folks know when a novel is out really is a mailing list. Other authors have already figured this out, and they’re screaming it from the rooftops.
So, I’ve spent the last week setting up my mailing list and new author website. I’m not going to publicise them just yet, though. They need a bit more polish, and announcing them alongside the completion of the first draft sounds like fun!
So, here’s to next Sunday!
