London Technology Unconference 2012

2012 was the inaugural year of the London Technology Unconference, which was to become an annual gathering of technologists within Thomson Reuters in the United Kingdom.

I helped to organise the event, and I hosted a talk called Maintainable Code is the Most Important Thing in the World.

This introduced my belief that – in our industry, at least – writing code that is maintainable is often more important than the code’s performance or efficiency. Of the most significant bottlenecks that we regularly faced, apps running too slowly was far less of a concern to me than the time that new team members needed to comprehend our quirky code and be able to contribute.
